The Gonzo Whiskey Company is proud to announce the limited availability of “First Edition” Fear and Loathing whiskey. Orphan barrels originally distilled in a very storied distillery near the birthplace of Hunter S. Thompson–Louisville, Kentucky–have, under great duress, been secured and aged to commemorate Hunter’s birthday: July 18th, 1937.
Global gonzo journalism and Gonzo Whiskey enthusiasts alike will be fortunate to secure the numbered “First Edition” bottles from these select barrels. The remaining Gonzo orphan barrels will continue to age into the double digits, and 1,937 bottles will be released annually on 7/18 beginning in 2025 until the barrels are forever depleted.
“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming “Wow! What a Ride!” – H.S.T.
Hunter S. Thompson… bold, brilliant, passionate, fearless, irreverent, and unique. In 1970, Hunter introduced “Gonzo” journalism to America through his observations and coverage in “The Kentucky Derby is Decadent and Depraved,” changing the landscape of journalism forever. Soon after, he wrote “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas,” which first appeared in Rolling Stone magazine before being published as a book in 1972. Fear and Loathing took Hunter to the global stage and introduced the broader world to Gonzo journalism as we know it today. Very few writers achieve an image that sometimes overshadows their actual work. Hunter is undeniably one of them. Nearly 55 years later, The Gonzo Whiskey Company–in direct partnership with Hunter’s estate and closest friends–is proud to share limited release whiskeys worthy of the legend.
